NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team scored two second half goals to defeat Assumption College, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Jess Dow Field.
Southern got on the board first when Assumption conceded an own goal a minute into the first half. Assumption answered back in the 24
th minute leveling the score at one apiece.
In the 65
th minute of the second half, junior
Mario Costa (Pawcatuck, Conn.) was taken down inside the 18 yard box resulting in a penalty kick for the Owls. Senior
Paul Templeton (Saltcoats, Scotland) was awarded the kick, and buried the shot giving Southern a 2-1 lead.
Nine minutes later, junior
Luke Perry (Macclesfield, England) notched his fourth goal of the season with a blast from 20 yards out into the left corner of the net.
Southern's
Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) recorded two saves in the game.
The Owls improved their overall record to 7-7-1 (6-5-1 NE-10) and will travel to Bentley Friday, Oct. 28 for their last regular season contest.
