Volleyball Falls to AIC, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team lost a tough three set match to Northeast-10 opponent American International College (25-17, 25-22, 25-17) tonight at Pelz Gynasium.

Megan Lyons (Cold Spring, N.Y.) led the offense for the Owls recording her second straight double digit kill performance with 10 kills and six digs. Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) and Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) recorded seven and six kills, respectively. Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) chimed in with two services aces and 14 digs, while Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) assisted 29 points in the loss.

The Owls fell behind early in the first set and slowly chipped away at the Yellow Jackets led before falling behind, 1-0. In the second set, Southern rallied for their first lead of the match at 12-11 followed by an AIC 6-0 run matched by the Owls 3-0 run to bring the set within two points at 15-17. The Owls surged late at 18-24 with a 4-0 run to make things interesting but faltered, 25-22. The Owls dropped the final set 25-17.

The Owls are now 11-5 on the season with a 3-3 conference record.

The Owls will be back in action Thursday on the road against Merrimack starting at 4 p.m.
