Box Score

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Sophomore Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) scored a career-high 33 points as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team trimmed a 17-point halftime deficit to just two points before ultimately dropping an 80-69 decision to the University of Bridgeport on Sunday evening.

Both teams moved to 1-1 on the season following the result.

The Owls trailed 39-22 at halftime and were down 16, 45-29, with 16:24 remaining. From there, SCSU scored 17 of the next 20 points over a stretch of 4:54 – Langston registered 13 points in the run – to close within a bucket, 48-46 with 11:30 left in the contest.

From there, the UB lead fluctuated between four and seven points for the next six minutes before the Purple Knights used a 7-0 spurt to distance themselves from the Owls.

The contest was closely contested in the early going. A three-pointer by Langston put the Owls within three at 23-20 with 8:31 to play in the opening half. However, SCSU went without a field goal for the next 7:43 and Bridgeport rolled off 16 straight points during that stretch.

Langston connected on 12-of-23 field goals, including 6-of-11 shots from behind the arc. Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the only other Owl in double figures. He finished with 11 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) added eight points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Owls.
