The contest against Saint Thomas Aquinas will be the first time that the Owls have played the Spartans in the history of the program.

IN THE NE-1O PRESEASON POLL
The Owls have been selected 13th in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll.

Southern Connecticut returns seven players from last year's squad - Lauren Allen, Camille Fantini, Alex Fiola, Shaniqua Fuller, Sylvonya Moore, Keshia Primo and Moni Smith-Ocran.

LOOKING BACK AT THE YEAR THAT WAS
The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team concluded its 2010-11 season with 11 wins. The Owls just missed a Northeast-10 Tournament berth.

BACK TO BACK HONORS
Senior guard Logan Lentz was named to Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team honors for the third straight year. An exercise science major, she posted a 3.95 cumulative grade point average.

TOP OF THE LEAGUE
At the end of the 2010-11 season, Logan Lentz ranked among the top in the Northeast-10 Conference. She was 11th in minutes played per game (33.10), sixth in assist/turnover ratio (1.26), and seventh in assists (96). Senior Shelley Pierson was also in the midst of the rankings finishing second in field goal percentage (.557) and fourth in rebounds (61), as well as seventh in blocked shots (27).

GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU PLAY DEFENSE
The equation was pretty straightforward for the Owls this year - strong defensive efforts translated into victories. Southern Connecticut allowed just 49.5 points per game in its 11 wins and merited 68.5 points per game in its 15 losses. The Owls didn't allow more than 60 points in any win, but allowed more than that figure in 13 of their 16 losses.

COMMUNITY SERVICE CUP WINNERS
The team won the Tim Greer Insurance Agency Inc. Community Service Cup for their efforts during the 2010-11 academic year.

COMMUNITY RECOGNITION
The 2010-11 squad was recognized by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education for their outstanding community service efforts. Head coach Meghan Brown and captain Alex Fiola attended an event in Hartford to receive formal recognition for their efforts in April.

KNOCKING OFF A NATIONALLY RANKED SQUAD
Playing against its first ranked opponent of the year, Southern Connecticut picked up a 71-60 win at No. 10 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce on Dec. 11. Sylovnya Moore had a career-high 26 points while senior Shelley Pierson tallied a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Moore also set a new career-high in assists (six).

CLEANING THE GLASS
The Owls ranked first in the league in offensive rebounds/game (15.62) and second in the Northeast-10 Conference in rebounding offense (40.3 per game).

ON DECK
The Owls will travel to face Assumption on Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
