Owls Down Concordia In High-Scoring Affair, 94-81

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored a career-high 24 points to pace five players in double figures for the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team on Sunday in a 94-81 win over Concordia (N.Y.).

The Owls, playing their first game in eight days, improved to 6-4 heading into an 11-day break for the holidays. Concordia moved to 5-5 on the year with the loss.

Langston also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists. Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 17 points with eight rebounds and three blocks, while Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) scored 17 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and a team-high three steals. Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) contributed career-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds, while senior Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Owls led from start to finish, but Concordia hung around all afternoon. Southern Connecticut scored the first 10 points of the game and led by 13 just past the midway point of the first half. However, after building that 13-point cushion – 29-16 with 9:49 to play – Concordia went on a 15-2 run to even the game at 31-31.

SCSU answered by outscoring the Clippers 23-6 over the final 6:35 of the half to carry a 54-37 lead into halftime.

The Owls continued their strong play early in the second half. They led by a 73-45 tally with 13:29 to go, but a 21-4 run by Concordia trimmed the gap to just seven at 75-68, with 6:40 remaining. The Clippers would get as close as six with 5:33 left, but the Owls pulled away late.

Southern Connecticut returns to action on Dec. 30 for a home game against Bridgeport. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
