SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Four players scored in double figures, led by a 23-point effort from sophomore
Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.), as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team hung on for a 72-69 win over LeMoyne on Tuesday evening in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
The Owls are now 5-3 overall and 4-2 in NE-10 play. LeMoyne dropped to 3-4, 2-4.
Langston hit 9-of-16 shots from the field and added a team-high seven rebounds.
Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 18 points and five rebounds for the Owls, while
Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) added 11 points and
Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) chipped in 10 points, six boards and four assists.
Trailing 55-51 with just over 12 minutes to play, the Owls took control with a 17-4 run to build a 68-59 cushion. The teams then traded then hoops before LeMoyne scored eight straight points to close within one in the final 90 seconds. However, SCSU didn't allow a point the rest of the way and held on for the win.
It was a game that featured surges from both teams. LeMoyne led for most of the first half, but the Owls used a 20-6 run to take their largest lead of the stanza, 37-29. SCSU held a 40-36 lead at the break.
The Owls extended their lead to nine, 47-38, in the opening two minutes of the half before LeMoyne stormed back with a 17-4 spurt to retake the lead.
Southern Connecticut returns to action on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when it hosts New Haven in a NE-10 contest.
