NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four players scored in double figures, but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team was defeated by Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 action, 86-75. It was Senior Day for the Owls.
SCSU is now 12-13, 9-12 in NE-10 play. Saint Rose improved to 19-7, 14-7 in league action.
Freshman
Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) led the Owls with 18 points in the contest.
Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) each added 14 points with nine and eight rebounds, respectively, while
Dexton Williamson (Bridgeport, Conn.) notched a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Senior
Chazz McCarter (New Haven, Conn.) recorded a career-high 10 boards in the contest.
Southern Connecticut led by two at the break and, after a layup by Hamlet with 14:41 remaining, held a 52-51 lead over the Golden Knights. However, Saint Rose used a 20-4 run over the next 6:15 to take control of the game for good. The Owls closed to within nine with four minutes to play but would get no closer.
The first half was a close affair, with neither team leading by more than six points. Langston notched 11 of his points in the first half as the Owls carried a 41-39 lead into halftime.
Southern Connecticut is back in action on Wednesday night when it travels to Assumption for the regular season finale.
