WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Senior
Chazz McCarter (New Haven, Conn.) led all scorers, setting a new career-high in the process with 24 points, and added eight rebounds to lead the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team to a 75-57 win at New Haven on Saturday.
With the win, the Owls improved to 11-10, 8-9 in league play, while New Haven dropped to 5-16, 3-14 in conference action.
Freshman
Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) contributed 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore
Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) extended his games-in-double-figures stretch to seven with 18 points in the win.
With 6:55 left in the first half, the Owls trailed 24-19. Using tight defense, the Owls held New Haven to a single basket and a foul shot to rally back and go on a 14-3 run to close the half. A three-pointer by McCarter to open the second half put the Owls up by nine points, to which, New Haven could not recover.
The Owls will be back in action against Pace University at home on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
