BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team scored two first half goals and held off a series of second half chances by the No. 12 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut squad for a 2-0 win on Saturday evening. It was the season opener for both teams.

Josh Pellegrini scored for UB in the 18th minute, while Lee Middleton scored in the 39th minute for the Purple Knights.

Southern Connecticut played most of the contest a man up after UB was issued a red card in the 19th minute.

The Owls maintained regular pressure in the second half, including a shot off the post, but were unable to connect for a goal on the evening.

Southern keeper Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) finished with five saves in the contest.

The Owls are back in action on Wednesday against Saint Rose in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams.
