Women's Soccer Shuts Out Mercy, 3-0

RINDGE, N.H. – The Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team defeated Mercy College today, 3-0. This was the Owls second consecutive game that they haven't allowed a goal. Southern got out to an early lead in the game with a successful penalty kick by Suzane Pires (Sao Paulo, Brazil) in the 34th minute and went on to the three goal win.

The Owls put up two more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach for Mercy. Lisamarie Tarchini (Bristol, Conn.) added the second goal of the game with a beautiful header in front of the net. Junior Kylie Rogers (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up the assist on the goal.

Southern added its third and final goal at the 67th minute mark with a goal by newcomer Hannah Spreckley (York, England). Spreckley collected a pass at the top of the box by Pires, dribbled in and fired low center for the goal.

Goaltender Jacquelyn Fede (North Haven, Conn.) picked up her second consecutive shutout this season, stopping the lone shot on net during the game that she saw.

The Owls moved to 2-0 on the season while Mercy College drops to 0-2.

The Owls next scheduled game is Tuesday, September 6, when they travel Syracuse, N.Y. to face Le Moyne College at 4 p.m.
