Men's Swimming Defeated By Connecticut College 158-104

The Owls were defeated by Connecicut College Sunday afternoon.
Final Meet Results

NEW LONDON, Conn.- The Southern Connecticut men's swimming and diving team dropped a close decision to Connecticut College, as the Camels defeated the Owls 158-104 Sunday afternoon.

Seniors Matthew Sorena (Brookfield, Conn.) and Austin Mizzell (Bristol, Conn.) led the way for the Owls with two first place finishes along with tallying a second place finish. Sorena captured first in the 500 freestyle (4:46.88), 200 butterfly (2:00.06) and placed second in the 1000 freestyle with a final time of 9:47.27. Mizzell followed suit with first place performances in the 100 breaststroke (59.88), 200 breaststroke (2:09.82) and captured second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.82.

Miguel Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R) contributed a first place finish in the 50 freestyle (21.63) and added a second place effort in the 100 freestyle (48.28).

Sophomore Oscar Castillo tallied a second place finish in the 200 butterfly with a final time of 2:01.88.

The Owl's relay teams picked up a first and second place finish on the day. The team of Castillo and Nesrala, teamed up with Junior Thomas Kuhn (Yakima, Wash.) and Sophomore Christian Sinchi (Bristol, Conn.) to capture first in the 400 medley relay (3:43.40). Southern finished the meet with a second place performance in the 200 freestlye relay with Nesrala, Sinchi, Sorena and Mizzell with a final time of 1:28:24.

Southern is back in action at home Saturday, Jan. 21 against West Chester University of Pennsylvania. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
