NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore forward
Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) scored a team-high 17 points, but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team dropped an 81-58 decision to Stonehill on Saturday afternoon. The Owls cut a 20-point halftime deficit to nine midway through the second half before the Skyhawks pulled away in the closing minutes to secure the win.
SCSU is now 8-9 overall and 6-7 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Stonehill improved to 12-5 overall and 9-4 in league action.
Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) was the only other Owl in double figures, as he finished with 10 points.
The game was tied at 10-10 through the first seven minutes before Stonehill took control with its hot shooting. The Skyhawks outscored the Owls by a 36-16 margin the rest of the half. Stonehill shot 68-percent in the first half and knocked down 8-of-12 three-pointers.
The visitors scored the first bucket of the second half before SCSU went on a 19-6 run to get within 54-45 with 11:19 left. However, Stonehill outscored the Owls by a 27-13 margin the rest of the way to pick up the win.
Langston hit on 7-of-15 shots from the floor and added five rebounds and a team-high three steals. Smith also dished out a team-best three assists.
Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) added eight points, while
Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Owls are back in action on Wednesday night when they host Southern New Hampshire.
