NEW HAVEN, Conn - The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team defeated Stonehill College today, 59-38. With the win, the Owls extended its winning streak to 12 games. SCSU got out to a slow start offensively through the first 10 minutes of the game. The Owls got going in the final seven minutes of the first half, going on a 14-to-2 run to finsish out the half. Southern Connecticut lead by 16 at halftime, thanks to a strong defensive game. The Skyhawks turned to the ball over 17 times in the first half and half of the Owl's 32 points came off turnovers. SCSU came out the gates firing in the second half, improving the lead to as high as 25 points with 11 minutes to play. The Owls forced the Skyhawks to turn the ball over an additional six times in the second half and it helped Southern Connecticut secure the victory.
Two players picked up double-doubles in the game for the Owls.
Moni Smith-Ocran (Bronx, N.Y.) led the team in scoring with 18 points and tallied 13 rebounds.
Camille Fantini (Andover, Mass.) was right behind Smith-Ocran, recording 17 points and 10 boards in the game. Fantini also recorded a team-high five steals.
Keshia Primo (Mississauga, Ontario) contributed seven points, four rebounds and two steals, off the bench for the Owls.
The Owls moved to 14-3 on the season and 11-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Southern Connecticut will be back at home Wednesday when they host Southern New Hampshire. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
