Final Meet Results
QUEENS, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team defeated Queens College this afternoon, 108-96.
Southern struck first with a win in the 200 yard medley relay (1:47.19) by the team of Miguel Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R.), Kyle Pietro (Huntington Valley, Penn.), Joseph Polaco (Waterbury, Conn.) and Timothy Steiskal (Naugatuck, Conn.)
Sophomores Polaco and Jimmy Zummo (Stockholm, N.J.) paced the Owls with a first and second place effort in the 500 yard freestyle. Polaco finished with a time of 5:05.47 and Zummo took second with a time of 5:20.46.
Senior Matthew Sorena (Brookfield, Conn.) and sophomore Domenick Errico (West Hartford, Conn.) placed first and second in the 50 yard freestyle. Sorena finished with a time of 23.12 and Errico finished with a final time of 24.09. Sorena also added a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.43.
Sophomore Oscar Castillo (Norwalk, Conn.) captured first place in the 100 yard freestyle, hitting the wall at the 50.32 mark.
Junior Thomas Kuhn (Yakima, Wash.) chipped in a second place effort in the 100 yard breast stroke, with a time of 1:05.42.
Freshman Dan Gallup (Milford, Conn.), Mike Ladelfa (New Milford, Conn.), and Dan Elliott (Bellmore, N.Y.) chipped in with second place efforts. Gallup placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.89), Ladelfa finished with a time of 2:08.35 in the 200 yard individual medley, and Elliott notched second place performance in the 100 yard butterfly with a final time of 56.14).
Southern ended the meet with a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with Ladelfa, Jared Thurston (Wallingford, Conn.), James Vaz (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Austin McMahon (Southbury, Conn.). The team finished with a time of 1:32.20.
