WALTHAM, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team took down No. 5 nationally ranked Bentley University today, 63-59. The loss snapped a 17-game home winning streak for the Falcons. With the win, the Owls extended their winning streak to 14 games and improve to 16-3 overall and 13-2 in Northeast-10 play.
The first half was back and forth with the lead never getting higher than seven points. The largest lead for the Falcons in the first half was five points, which came early in the first. The Owls had a seven-point lead late in the second. SCSU lead 27-25 after the first half.
In the second half, the Owls built up an eight-point lead within the first six minutes but quickly gave it back to the Falcons. The Falcons regained the lead with 11 minutes to play and kept the lead up until 5:48 when
Camille Fantini (Andover, Mass.) hit a three-pointer to tie the game. The Owls took the lead back with 2:48 left and kept the lead for the rest of the game. SCSU had a lead as high as seven points within the final two minutes.
The Owls had four players with double-figures in points.
Sylvonya Moore (Stockton, Calif.) led the charge for the Owls, recording 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Camille Fantini tallied 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals.
Moni Smith-Ocran (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up the only double-double for the Owls, scoring 12 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.
Keshia Primo (Mississauga, Ontario) contributed 12 points and three rebounds off the bench for the Owls.
The Owls moved to 16-3 on the season and 13-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Southern Connecticut will be back at home Tuesday when it hosts Assumption College. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
