Men's Basketball Powers Past Assumption, 82-65

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior forward Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while sophomore Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) added 22 points and a team-high six assists as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team captured an 82-65 win over Assumption on Tuesday evening.

SCSU improved to 9-11 overall and 7-9 in Northeast-10 Conference play with the win. Assumption moved to 8-12 and 6-10 in the NE-10.

Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) scored 15 points for the Owls and added nine rebounds.



The Owls shot 58 percent from the floor in the contest and led practically from start to finish. SCSU hit 18-of-27 field goals in the first half and led by as many as 20 points in the opening stanza. The hosts carried a 47-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Assumption hung around for most of the second half and closed to within seven, 63-56, with 7:28 remaining. However, the Owls put the game away with a 10-0 run and went on to the 17-point win.

Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) added nine points and five rebounds, while Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) contributed seven points for the Owls.

SCSU is back in action on Saturday for a road game at Saint Rose.
