NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The American International College football team scored the final 34 points of the contest to turn a second quarter deficit into a 34-7 win over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday.
The Owls are now 2-5 overall and 2-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play. AIC is 5-1, 5-0 in league action.
The game was tied at 7-7 at halftime, but the Yellow Jackets scored 27 second half points to earn the win.
Jacob Jablonski (Gales Ferry, Conn.) completed 21-of-38 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown.
Willie Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) had eight catches for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Jayson Holt (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) had a single-game career-high six catches, as did
Robert Moores (Staten Island, N.Y.) with three receptions for 47 yards.
Jack Mallis (Windham, Maine) rushed 17 times for 69 yards and had two catches for 29 yards.
Epps moved into fourth place on the SCSU all-time receptions list and now has 138 catches following the conclusion of play today.
The Owls opened the scoring with a three-play, 51-yard drive midway through the second quarter. The drive was capped by a 39-yard scoring strike from Jablonski to Epps.
AIC needed just 1:45 on its next drive to tie the game. The Yellow Jackets had a chance to take the lead before halftime, but
Malcolm Crosson (Glastonbury, Conn.) picked off an AIC pass in the end zone to keep the score tied at the break.
The Yellow Jackets then scored 20 third quarter points and added another touchdown in the final frame to make it a 34-7 final.
Mike Dunkley (Yonkers, N.Y.) had nine tackles and an interception to lead the defense. Crosson and
Dion O'Joe (Waterbury, Conn.) also posted an interception for the Owls.
SCSU is back in action on Friday night for a home game against Assumption at 7 p.m.
