Mario DiMiceli (Vilers-Le-Bouillet, Belgium) scored in the seventh minute and then again in 43rd minute to lift the Southern Connecticut State University (7-5-1, 5-5-1 NE-10) men's soccer team over the number seven ranked River Hawks from Massachusetts-Lowell (11-3-1, 10-2 NE-10) on Saturday in a Northeast-10 Conference game, 2-1.
DiMiceli would receive a cross from freshman
Daquan King (Plainville, Conn) and beat the goal keeper just seven minutes into the game to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The River Hawks would answer in the 15th minute when Homer Morais headed one past goalkeeper
Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn) to tie the game at one apiece. DiMiceli then would push across his second goal of the day and his12th of the season as he got a pass from junior
Doural Scott (New Haven, Conn.) and finished it in the back of the net.
The Owls would hold off UMass-Lowell in the second half to give them their seventh win of the season and improve their record to 5-5-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Sasso earned his third win in net for the Owls, while recording four saves.
There were five yellow cards handed out in the match and 13 total fouls.
SCSU will be back in action on Tuesday as it travels to Assumption College at 7 p.m. for another Northeast-10 Conference game.
