Owls Lose Home Opener To Assumption, 80-67

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A big first half was the difference as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team was defeated by Assumption, 80-67, in the Northeast-10 Conference home opener at Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn.

Assumption started off the game on fire by forcing turnovers on the Owls and capitalizing with fast-break points.

After a steal by Terrance Bobb-Jones, Assumption went on a 7-0 run to take a 10-3 lead. Kevin Donahue hit a three-pointer, forcing a Southern timeout less than two minutes into the game.

Assumption took the lead to double-digits for much of the half and put the Owls on the defensive, and taking a 38-29 lead into halftime.



The Owls committed 11 turnovers in the first half.

In the second half, the Owls could not get within single digits.

The Owls got within 66-55, but Tim Beinhert had a three-point play to put the game out of reach.

Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led with 18 points. Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) had 14 points and five rebounds. Rashamell Vereen (Meriden, Conn.) had 13 points and four rebounds.



Assumption's leading scorers were Bobb-Jones with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ronson Quick had 21 points and eight rebounds.
