Owls Rally, Defeat Concordia In Double Overtime, 99-94

The Owls rallied to beat Concordia, 99-94, in double overtime.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Five players were in double-digits as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team rallied to defeat Concordia in double overtime, 99-94, at Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn.

Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Owls (6-3) with 28 points and five rebounds. Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) also had 22 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Stefon Williams (Jamaica, N.Y.) had 20 points and five rebounds.



Argelix Gil led Concordia (4-8) with a double-double on 24 points and 10 rebounds. Lavor Morris had 23 points and Norman Pope had 21 points.

Concordia jumped out to a 17-8 lead early before the Owls fought back to take a 20-19 lead after Langston's jumper.

Concordia led 36-35 at halftime.

In the second half, the Owls opened up a 10-point lead on Concordia, 61-51, with 10:41 remaining on Hamlet's layup.

Concordia then chipped away and went ahead 68-65 when Pope hit a three-pointer with 4:59 remaining.

The Owls hung around and put the pressure on in the final minutes of the half.

Concordia led 73-68 when Williams made it 73-70 on a jumper with 10 seconds left. After timeouts by both sides, the Owls tied the game at 73 when Hamlet stole the ball from Gil and hit a three-pointer from 30-feet out with three seconds remaining.



In overtime, Hamlet gave the Owls what looked like breathing room with a jumper to make it 83-80 with 20 seconds remaining.

However, the Owls fouled Pope from the top of the key with three seconds remaining, and gave Pope three foul shots to tie the game at 83.

In the second overtime, Langston gave the Owls a 93-92 lead they would not relinquish with a jumper and 1:51 remaining.

Concordia had time for the final shot down 97-94, but Gil missed a three-pointer. Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) made free throws to ice the win.
