New Haven Defeats Owls, 72-67

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Four players were in double-digits, but the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team was defeated by New Haven, 72-67, at Charger Gymnasium in West Haven, Conn.

Jeremy Williams led New Haven (3-5, 2-4 NE-10) with 22 points. Jeffrey Adkins also had 15 points while Eric Anderson had a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Deshawn Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) led the Owls (5-3, 3-3 NE-10) with 15 points and six rebounds. Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) had 13 points and six rebounds. Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) and Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) each chipped in 12 points.

In the first half, the Owls led for the early portion of the game with a 16-12 lead. New Haven then went ahead 17-16 when Williams hit a three-pointer, assisted to Cyrus James.

New Haven would lead until the remaining minutes in the half when Murphy hit a three-pointer to put the Owls ahead, 33-31, and would take a 35-31 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Owls again had the momentum early, but could not capitalize.

Williams again put New Haven in front with a 47-46 lead with 9:48 remaining, assisted to Josh Guddemi, and they would not relinquish the lead in the game.



The Owls got within 53-50 with 4:29 remaining, but Williams hit a three-pointer to give New Haven a 56-50 lead and they would then keep the lead with free throws.
