WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman
Jackie Beathea (Annadale, Va.) scored 18 points and pulled down 17 rebounds for the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon as they fell to New Haven (6-3, 5-1 Northeast-10), 84-64, in a Northeast-10 Conference game.
New Haven started the game on a 13-4 run and the Owls could never cut into the lead in the first half. The Chargers would take a double-digit lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the half at 28-18 and would continue to lead by double-figures for most of the half.
The Owls would trail 51-25 at halftime.
New Haven would lead by as many as 30 early in the second half as the Owls struggled offensively shooting 33 percent from the field in the game.
Beathea recorded her fifth double-double of the year for the Owls. Sophomore
Mariah Hankton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) scored 16 points and added four assists in the loss. Freshman
Danielle Powell (Pine Bush, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points.
The Owls fall to 3-5 on the season and 1-4 in conference play. SCSU will be back in action on Dec. 19 when they host Queens at 7 p.m.
