No. 16/20 Nationally Ranked Le Moyne Defeats No. 21 Baseball, 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Strong pitching by the Dolphins helped the No. 16/20 nationally ranked Le Moyne defeat the No.21 Southern Connecticut State University baseball team today, 2-1. The Owls got a run across in the second inning with a solo shot to left field by Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) to lead off the inning. SCSU had an opportunity to add another run in the fourth inning when Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) tripled to center field with only one out in the inning. Next batter, T.J. Shea (Hamden, Conn.) grounded out to first and Peter Testa (Orange, Conn.) followed with a groundout to the second basemen to end the inning. Le Moyne got the equalizer in the fifth with an RBI fly-out by the catcher. The Dolphins scored again in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead over Southern and it proved to be the game winner.

Daniel Murdoch (Newtown, Conn.) started for the Owls and had a strong outing. Murdoch threw a complete game, giving up two runs, on five hits and fanned five batters. Ryan Geffert led the ball club with a hit, walk and picked up the only RBI for SCSU. Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.) and Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) were the only other Owls to collect hits in the game. Kyle Cummings (Hamden, Conn.) was the only other Owl to get on base with a walk in the game.

The Owls move to 27-13 on the season and 14-8 in Northeast-10 Conference action. They will be back in action Saturday, when they travel to play a doubleheader at American International College. Game one is scheduled to start at noon.
