SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –
Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) of the Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team recorded her second double-double in as many games in a 3-1 loss to Nyack on the first day of the AIC Labor Day Tournament in Springfield, Mass.
McVey registered 13 digs with 11 kills en route to her second straight double-double on the season.
Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) recorded a team-high 15 kills for the Owls, while
Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) added eight kills. Both
Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) and
Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) managed 13 digs.
Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) assisted on 35 of the Owls' points.
The Owls dropped the first set 25-13 off a slow start. They recovered nicely going into the second set to even things up at 1-1 with a 25-19 score. The Owls dropped the last two sets 25-23 and 25-22. Deep in the third set, the Owls found themselves at a 23-19 deficit pulling to within one point of a tie at 24-all before dropping the set followed by much the same back and forth action in the fourth set as Nycak closed out the match.
The Owls are currently 1-1 on the season with another game still to be played on the day. Southern will square off against Queens College tonight at 6 p.m. and continue with two more games at the AIC Labor Day Tournament tomorrow with Concordia at 9:30 a.m. and Georgian Court at 1:30 p.m.
