Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –The Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team won their toughest match to date in a five set marathon at home against American Int'l, 3-2. With the victory, the Owls extend their win streak to nine straight dating back to Sept. 1.

Three Owls recorded over 12 kills on the day: Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) with a season-high 22, Jade Black (Hudson, Ohio) with 14, and Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) with 12. Black recorded her first double-double as an Owl with 14 kills and 15 digs to her credit. Vanessa Sullivan (Paramus, N.J.) led the way with 26 digs, followed by Kimberly Lachowicz (Mansfield, Texas) with 16. Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) and Beres each had seven digs a piece. Southern also recorded their highest block total of the season with 18 block assists and three solo blocks as Beres and Syriah Celestine (Greenlawn, N.Y.) contributed five and Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) had four block assists. Lachowicz also recorded a season high in assists with 55 and her fourth double-double of the year to lead the playbook for Southern.

The Owls traded blows with the Yellow Jackets all match long with neither team having a clear advantage. They managed to take both the first two sets by a score of 25-23. AIC quickly responded with two set wins of their own at 25-19 and 28-26 before the fifth and final set. The final set was much like the entire match up to this point with neither team finding an edge. Both teams managed a tied score 14 times in just the fifth set alone. Key kills by McVey in the final few points and some missteps by AIC pushed the momentum in the Owls favor and soon sealed the set at 18-16 and match 3-2.

The Owls are now 10-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

The Owls will be back on the road tomorrow for a match against Dominican College scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
