Streak Extends to 11; Owls Cruise Past Bloomfield, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Syriah Celestine (Greenlawn, N.Y.) of the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team tallied a game-high eight kills as the Owls extended their win streak to 11 in a 3-0 win against Bloomfield College at Pelz Gymnasium.



Taylor Carlson (Centennial, Colo.) led the Owls' offense with a career-high 17 assists on the night. Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) and Kelly Gunneson (Cheshire, Conn.) tied for five kills apiece. Gunneson also had four service aces and three digs with a 0.571-hitting percentage. Freshman Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) recorded eight digs in the effort leading the defensive side for Southern. Gunneson, Beres, Celestine, and Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) each managed a hitting percentage of at least 0.444-percent.




The Owls made quick work of the Lady Deacons by a score of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-15. At one point, the Owls found themselves down 11-12 in the third but soon turned the tide as Gunneson served 10 straight points with four of those points off aces to put the Owls ahead comfortably at 21-12.

The Owls are now 12-1 on the season.

The Owls will be back in action later this week for their second Northeast-10 conference match of the season against Saint Rose on the road scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Sept. 20th.
