King's Goal Lifts Southern Past New Haven, 2-0

SCSU won there fourth game of the year on Wednesday night.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University (4-0, 3-0 NE-10) men's soccer program took down the University of New Haven (3-3, 1-2 NE-10), 2-0 in a Northeast-10 conference game on Wednesday night.

Daquan King (Plainville, Conn) scored the first goal for the Owls when he received a pass from Luke Perry (Macclesfield, England) and bent it into the lower right corner in the 55th minute. The Owls would then strike again after New Haven's goalkeeper Anastasios Petridis received a red card for tripping Doral Scott (New Haven, Conn) in the box. Mario Costa (Pawcatuck, Conn.) would take the penalty kick and strike it into the top right corner to give the Owls a 2-0 lead and they would go on to get their fourth win of the season, and improve to 3-0 in conference play.

Three yellow cards and a red card were given out in the contest. New Haven received two of the yellows and the red was given to the Chargers goalkeeper Anastasios Petridis.

Greg Cumpstone (Killingworth, Conn.) recorded four saves for the Owls and earned his third shutout of the year. The shots were dead even at seven apiece for both teams.

Southern will be back in action this Saturday when it hosts Saint Michael's College at 2 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
