Men's Soccer Hosts Saint Rose in 2012 Season Opener

A NEW SEASON BEGINS
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team will open its 2012 campaign with a Northeast-10 Conference showdown against Saint Rose on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB
The Owls welcome 12 newcomers - Melvin Lamberty, Mario DiMiceli, Nils Fussen, Josh Abromaitis, Mads Larsen, Greg Cumpstone, Jonas Folstad, Daquan King, Matthew Gilmore, Luke Cantin, Steven Smith and Josh Gustafson - to this year's squad.

IN SEASON OPENERS
The Owls are 29-9-6 all-time in season openers.

IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLL
SCSU was selected fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, as voted by the league's coaches.

ALL-TIME VS. SAINT ROSE
SCSU leads the all-time record against Saint Rose by a 10-0 margin.

LOOKING BACK AT 2011
The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team capped off the 2011 season with an overall mark of 8-8-1. The Owls were nationally ranked as high as No. 12 during the year and also qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.

TWO EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Seniors Paul Templeton and Jeremy Tavares were both recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play during the 2011 season.

TEMPLETON RAKES IN ACADEMIC HONORS
Senior Paul Templeton was selected as an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Third-Team honoree) for his work in the classroom and on the pitch during the 2011 season. He was also named an Academic All-Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

DUO NAMED NE-10 ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE
Paul Templeton and Yoni Feldman were both named to the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the 2011 season. Both were also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

STRONG CAREER COMES TO A CLOSE
In addition to an array of academic honors, Paul Templeton was also selected to the All-Region and All-ECAC teams for his play in 2011.

OWLS THRIVE INDIVIDUALLY IN THE CLASSROOM
Thirteen members of the 2011 squad were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their efforts in the classroom during the 2011-12 academic year.

PERRY MAKES A QUICK IMPACT
Luke Perry finished second on the club with 11 points (four goals, three assists) in his first season with the Owls in 2011.

LARA POSTS NEW CAREER NUMBERS
Junior Francisco Lara set new career-highs in goals (three), assists (two) and points (eight) during the 2011 season

ON DECK
SCSU will host Dowling College on Sept. 11 at Jess Dow Field.
