NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in double overtime to Merrimack College on Sunday, 2-1. Merrimack scored in the 107
th minute to give the Owls their second loss of the season.

Doural Scott (New Haven, Conn.) got Southern on board in the 35
th minute when he got a pass from
Francisco Lara (Laredo, Texas) and put it in the back of net to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The Owls would hold that lead until the 80
th minute when Merrimack's Julio Leon would tie the score at one on a free kick that he bent past goalkeeper
Greg Cumpstone (Killingworth, Conn.). The game would head to overtime tied at one.
The Owls had a chance late in the first overtime when freshman
Mads Larsen (Trondheim, Norway) bent one towards the net only to have it knocked away by the Warriors goalkeeper. Merrimack would score in the 107
th minute after a cross by Leon was headed in by Olof Lindhe to give the Warriors a 2-1 win over Southern.
The Owls had 25 shots on goal compared to 19 by Merrimack. Cumpstone had nine saves in the loss.
SCSU is now 4-2-1 on the season and will be on the road this Wednesday at Franklin Pierce at 7 p.m.
