Owls Defeat Saint Michael's, 60-56

Tylon Smith had a double-double in the win.
COLCHESTER, Vt. - Three players finished in double-digits as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated Saint Michael's, 60-56, in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Ross Sports Center in Colchester, Vt.

Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) led the Owls (9-5, 6-4 NE-10) with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) led the scoring with 16 points and seven rebounds. Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

Corey Crawford II led Saint Michael's (4-10, 1-9 NE-10) with 20 points and eight rebounds. Dom Ditlefsen had 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Owls jumped out to the lead in the opening minutes and would never lose the lead in the game.

In the second half, Stefon Williams (Jamaica, N.Y.) made it 35-28 with a layup and 16:40 remaining.

Saint Michael's would not go away as they would tie the game at 39 when Ditlefsen made a layup with 12:42 remaining.

SCSU took a 43-39 lead when Houston had a steal and then made a layup with 11:56 remaining, causing a timeout from Saint Michael's.

Saint Michael's then cut the lead to one, 45-44, when Will Davis made two of his three free-throws with 9:12 remaining.

The Owls would extend the lead and play good defense to hold the lead. Smith made it 57-48 with 1:19 remaining after a layup to seal it.

In the first half, Hamlet made it a nine-point lead, 21-12, with a jumper.

Crawford II brought Saint Michael's within five, 26-21, with a three-pointer, but the Owls would keep the lead and carry a 30-25 lead into halftime.
