Langston's 23 Leads Owls Past Merrimack, 73-69

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) led with 23 points and five rebounds as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team defeated Merrimack, 73-69, in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn.



The Owls (10-5, 7-4 NE-10) had four players score in double-digits. Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) had 16 points and six rebounds, while Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 14 points and seven rebounds. Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) also chipped in 10 points.



Merrimack (7-9, 4-7 NE-10) had three-players in double-digits. Kevin Regan led with 19 points and nine points. Gelvis Solano had 18 points and three rebounds. Mike Clifford also had 12 points and five rebounds.

In the first half, the Owls tied the game at 23 when Smith made a layup. Smith then made it 28-23 when he hit a jumper to attempt a three-point play with 4:38 in the half only to miss the free-throw.

Kevin Regan tied it up at 32 as time wound down in the half to take the tie into halftime.

In the second half, Houston began a 14-4 run and gave SCSU a 47-39 lead with a three-pointer, assisted to Hamlet, with 12:13 remaining.

Langston made it 58-43 with 9:05 remaining after a layup, assisted to Smith to conclude a 22-7 run overall.

The Owls then grabbed their biggest lead of 16 when Langston made a dunk to make it 67-51, following a defensive rebound, assisted to Hamlet with 3:50 remaining.

Merrimack closed within 73-69 with two seconds remaining but the Owls ran out the clock.
