Owls Second Half Comeback Shocks SNHU, 62-56

MANCHESTER, N.H. - For the third consecutive game, the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team had to find a way to come back down double-digits in the second half.

Just like the other two previous games, the Owls responded with 49 total points in the second half to defeat Southern New Hampshire, 62-56, in a Northeast-10 Conference game at SNHU Fieldhouse in Manchester, N.H.

The Owls (12-6, 9-5 NE-10) had three-players in double-digits led by Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Rashamell Vereen (Meriden, Conn.) also had 11 points and four rebounds.

Aleksandar Dobrovic led SNHU (11-7, 7-7 NE-10) with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Stys also had 11 points.

In the first half, SNHU jumped all over the Owls with an immediate 9-0 lead to start the game.

SNHU would score 27 of the first 31 points of the game keyed by their 11-0 run for a 27-4 lead on a three-pointer from Stys.

SNHU would lead at halftime, 32-13.

In the second half, the Owls would turn the tables and have their own big half with 49 points scored.

SCSU scored 14 of the first 16 points in the half, and got within single-digits at 34-27 when Deshawn Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) made a three-pointer with 13:55 remaining.

Vereen then made 42-41 with a three-pointer, assisted to Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.), with 7:09 remaining.

Vereen would then give the Owls their first lead of the game, 44-43, with a layup plus a free-throw for the three-point play with 6:13 remaining.

After SNHU grabbed the lead back at 46-44, the Owls went on a 9-0 run that would give them the lead for good at 53-46 with 2:56 remaining.

Langston started the run with a jumper while Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) ended it with free-throws.

After C.J. Marriro made free-throws and cut the Owls' leads to 55-51, Houston made a jumper with 1:16 remaining to make it 57-51, and ultimately put the game away.
