MANCHESTER, N.H. - A strong second half for the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire was the difference in a Northeast-10 game on Tuesday night as the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team was defeated, 67-53.
So. New Hampshire (10-8, 7-7 Northeast-10) led at the end of the first half, 31-25, and proceeded to start the second period on a 17-2 run to take total control of the game. The Penmen would lead by as many as 21 and led by double-figures for the majority of the second half.
Southern had a breif answer for the Penmen going on a 9-1 run to get back into the game and within striking distance trailing by 13 with just over 12 minutes to go. The Owls would not be able to get any closer until the last few minutes of the game.
Sophomore
Mariah Hankton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) led Southern with 14 points and four rebounds. Freshman
Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) was one rebound short of her third double-double in a row scoring 10 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Senior
Camille Fantini (Andover, Mass.) also chipped in with 11 points five assists and four steals in the loss.
So. New Hampshire was led by Victoria Wiseman who tallied a double-double scoring a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds.
The Owls fall to 5-12 overall and 2-12 in Northeast-10 play and are set to host No. 2 Bentley on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
