Owls Fall At Home To Franklin Pierce, 83-68

The Owls were defeated by Franklin Pierce, 83-68.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) posted her fifth double-double of the year scoring a game-high in points with 23 and in rebounds with 11, but the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell to Franklin Pierce, 83-68, in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Wednesday night at Moore Field House.

The Owls (4-7, 1-7 Northeast-10) outscored Franklin Pierce 12-4 to start the game and led by as many as nine after Katie Stopera (Hollis, N.H.) hit a three to give the Owls a 27-18 lead with just over 10 minutes to go in the first half. Franklin Pierces Brittany Martelle would hit a one of her four three pointers on the night with 15 seconds to go in the half to give the Ravens a 42-39 lead going into the break.



The Owls trailed by 10 with 15:25 remaining in the second half before making a 10-0 run to tie the game at 55 apiece, sparked by back to back Camille Fantini (Andover, Mass.) three pointers. The Ravens (8-4, 5-3 Northeast-10) would answer with a 13-3 run and go on to win by double-figures, 83-68.

Mariah Hankton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) added 15 points for the Owls, while Fantini and Moni Smith-Ocran (Bronx, N.Y.) were also in double-figures tallying 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Kara Charette led the Ravens with 22 points and eight rebounds including 16 from the charity stripe.

Franklin Pierce shot 61 percent from the field, including 11-16 from three point range.

Southern Connecticut will be back in action when the Owls travel to UMass-Lowell for a 5:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
