Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team scored twice less than two minutes apart early in the second half to help the Owls defeat visiting Saint Anselm 2-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference match Saturday afternoon.
Early in the second half,
Brandyn Rowlinson (East Islip, N.Y.) opened the scoring on a strike from about 18 yards out. It was the freshman's first intercollegiate goal.
94 seconds later,
Mads Larsen (Trondheim, Norway) doubled the Owls' lead. The sophomore took a
Daquan King (Plainville, Conn.) pass and one touched the ball past Saint Anselm goalkeeper Mark Kotsopoulos from inside the six.
Both goalkeepers had help from their crossbars to keep the match scoreless in the first half. SCSU goalkeeper
Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn.) deflected a Hawks' header off his crossbar in the 23rd minute. A few minutes later a strike from
Tyler Naef (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) rang off the crossbar.
Kotsopoulos continued to have help from the crossbar in the second half.
Sebastian Brems (Odense, Denmark) saw his free kick bounce off the crossbar. Moments later, a boot by Larsen hit the crossbar.
Sasso stopped all three Saint Anselm shots to record his fifth shutout of the season. Kotsopoulos finished with three saves.
The Owls, now 5-5-1, 5-3-1 NE-10, plays at New Haven on Tuesday at 7 p.m..
