Box Score
NEW HAVEN, CONN. -
Daquan King (Plainville, Conn.)  had a goal and an assist as the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team defeated Le Moyne 2-0.
In the 27th minute, the Owls opened the scoring when King broke on goal ahead of the Le Moyne defenders.  After drawing in Matthew Silva, the Dolphins' goalkeeper, the sophomore passed the ball to freshman
Kevin Joslyn (Norwalk, Conn.), who did not miss the open net from inside the box.
At the break, the Owls led 1-0, but each team had its chances.
Southern had an excellent opportunity to get on the board less than two minutes into the match. Co-captain
Jonas Folstad (Trondheim, Norway) was able to get his head on a corner from teammate
Mads Larsen (Trondheim, Norway) over the Dolphins' goalkeeper.  However, a Le Moyne defender was able to head the floating ball away from the net.
With a dozen minutes left before intermission, Le Moyne had a free kick from approximately 25 yards out.  Junior Cal Filtch put a strong strike on the ball, which sailed just high above the upper left corner.
In the second half, Le Moyne broke out to a fast start, earning two corners within the first three minutes after halftime.  Throughout the early portion of the second half, the Dolphins' continued to push the pace and make the Owls' backline of Folstad,
Matthew Gilmore (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Alex Soriano (Wallingford, Conn.) work hard on defense.
In the first 25 minutes of the second half, the Dolphins had seven corners and almost had the tying goal when one header hit the crossbar.
King scored an insurance goal on a counterattack shortly thereafter, getting past the Le Moyne backline and chipping the ball over a diving Silva.  Larsen assisted on the goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn.) earned his third shutout of the season, stopping all six Dolphins' shots.  Silva recorded two saves for Le Moyne.
The Owls, who improved to 3-2-1, (3-1-1 NE-10), are home again on Saturday night against Stonehill.  The Northeast-10 Conference match is at 7 p.m.
Le Moyne, now 5-3, (3-2 NE-10), hosts Franklin Pierce on Saturday at noon.
