Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team kept it close all night long but couldn't pull out the win, losing to Le Moyne, 78-72.
The Owls are now 5-5 overall, 1-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Le Moyne improves to 8-3 overall, 4-1 in the NE-10.
Kayla Stroman from Le Moyne led all scorers with 24 on the night.
Junior
Mariah Hankton (Upper Marlboro, Md.) got the start tonight and led Owls scoring with 17 along with three rebounds.
Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) tallied 15 points and eight points.
Keshia Primo (Mississagua, Ontario) posted 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Freshmen
Maria Weselyj (Marlborough, Conn.) contributed 11 points and two assists.
Sydni Lester (Teaneck, N.J.) also chipped in with eight points, three rebounds and four assists.
Le Moyne went on a 6-3 run to begin the contest. The play was very physical and back and forth throughout the entire half. The Owls were 45.9% from the field, one for three from three-point range as well as three for nine from the free-throw line in the first half. Le Moyne was 48.4% from the field, 5-10 from three and 5-7 from the stripe. The score going into the break was 40-38, Le Moyne by two.
The second half play was similar to the first half. The Owls bench played an important role in tonight's game, as they had 17 points in total as opposed to Le Moyne's nine bench points. The Owls were also able to turn a lot of Le Moyne's turnovers into points, having 21 points off turnovers alone. Le Moyne was ahead most of the second half, being up by as many as nine points. The Owls however, were able to bring the score within one but were not able to take over. Le Moyne pulled out the win with a final score of 78-72.
The Owls are back in action at home on Dec. 22 taking on their cross-town rival New Haven, tip-off for that game is set for 1:30 p.m.
