Owls Rally in Second Half to Beat Saint Rose, 76-65

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team used 50 second half points to defeat Saint Rose, 76-65. Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.), one of four Owls scoring in double figures, totaled 17 of his game-high 20 points in the second half. The senior guard, also had five rebounds, two steals and an assist.


Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) had 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, for Southern Connecticut.


Deshawn Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) and Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) came off the bench to add 15 and 10 points respectively.

After allowing the Golden Knights to get the first hoop of the game, SCSU sprang out to a 10-2 lead. The Owls continued to add to their lead going up 17-5 with 12:22 to go before the break.

From there, Saint Rose rallied back, going on a 14-2 run to tie the game at 21 with 7:38 left in the first half.

The game, tied at 26 at the half, saw both teams play tough defense. In the first half, SCSU shot 26.8% from the floor and Saint Rose 26.5% from the field.


Down a point a few minutes after coming out of the locker room, Southern used a 26-10 run to take a a 15 point lead with 8:40 left in the game. The Owls received three-pointers from Murphy (two), Mallory (two) and Langston during that crucial stretch.

Saint Rose received double-doubles from Tyler Sayre (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Dominykas Milka (17 points, 14 rebounds).


SCSU (5-1, 2-1 Northeast-10) travels to AIC on Saturday for a Northeast-10 Conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
