SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team picked up an important road Northeast-10 Conference victory by defeating AIC, 80-70, on Saturday afternoon.

Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) led all scorers with 24 points. The senior guard also grabbed six rebounds.

In his first start of the season, Deshawn Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) recorded a double-double, scoring 23 points and snagging 11 rebounds.

The Owls, who led the entire second half, received 17 points and nine assists from Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.).

AIC came out fast to start the game, jumping out to an 8-0 lead four minutes into the contest.  Southern Connecticut was able to battle back, going on a 29-19 run over the final nine minutes of the first half to turn a four-point deficit into a 43-37 halftime lead.  A three-pointer by Smith with 1:06 left before intermission extinguished the Yellow Jackets' lead for the rest of the game.

In the second half, the Owls shot over 63% (7/11) from beyond the arc.  Murphy had 16 points in the second period, knocking down four three-pointers.

Southern Connecticut, which kept its lead between six-ten points for the majority of the second half, outscored AIC 37-33 after intermission.
