Owls Fall At Home To New Haven, 73-57

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A 14-0 run to start the second half guided the New Haven Chargers over the Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team, 73-57, in Northeast-10 contest held at Moore Field House on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls led early at 7-6, but would never regain the lead in the game. Late in the first half the Chargers would go on a 7-0 surge, sparked by one of Anh-Dao Tran's seven three-pointers on the day go give New Haven a 30-20 lead.

Leading by 12, 38-26, after an up and down first half, the Chargers came out hot in the second half, hitting their first six of seven shots to take a commanding 52-26 lead just four minutes into the period.

New Haven (13-12, 12-9 Northeast-10) would take its biggest lead of the game with 8:42 remaining in the game as they led by 30 and would go onto win, 73-57.

Tran led all scorers with 20 points and added nine assists and four rebounds to lead the way for New Haven.

Freshman Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y.) scored a season-high 15 points for Southern, while pulling down five rebounds.

Katie Stopera (Hollis, N.H.) would add 10 points for the Owls and Jackie Beathea (Annandale, Va.) chipped in with seven points and 12 rebounds.



Southern Connecticut falls to 7-17 and 4-17 in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Owls will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at home against Adelphi at 5:30 p.m.
