WORCESTER, Mass. - Four players were in double-digits as the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team picked up a big road win over Assumption, 81-64, in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Andrew Laska Gym in Worcester, Mass.
SCSU shot 53 percent from the field in the game.
Deshawn Murphy (Hamden, Conn.) led the Owls (14-6, 11-5 NE-10) with 21 points.
Tylon Smith (Manchester, Conn.) had a double-double of 14 points and 10 assists.
Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) chipped in 14 points.
Kevin Donahue led Assumption (15-5, 12-4 NE-10) with 21 points. Ronson Quick also had 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Owls led from 3-2 and never lost the lead for the remainder of the game.
In the first half, Murphy gave the Owls a 17-9 lead with a three-pointer, assisted to
Rashamell Vereen (Meriden, Conn.).
Luke Houston (Pearl River, N.Y.) then brought the lead to 22-14 with a jumper.
Assumption came back to within 24-22 after Donahue made a three-pointer, assisted to Will Defanti.
After Southern called timeout, the lead went back to 29-22 when Langston made a three-pointer, assisted to Houston.
The Owls took a 39-31 lead into halftime.
In the second half, SCSU would keep the lead in double-digits for the entire half.
The Owls opened up with an 11-0 run, and a 13-0 run overall, to take a 50-31 lead capped off by a three-pointer from Langston with 16:58 remaining.
The Owls brought the lead to 20 points with a 75-55 lead after a three-pointer from Murphy, assisted to Hamlet, with 4:31 remaining.
