COLEBROOK, Conn. - Members of the Southern Connecticut State University women's cross country and track and field programs, along with head coach
Melissa Stoll, recently took part in an outreach program at Camp Rising Sun to benefit the Team Impact program. The Owls assisted youngsters at the event with several athletically-related activities during the course of the afternoon.
This program is just one example of many community outreach events that SCSU student-athletes will take part in as part of the Tim Greer Insurance Agency Community Service Cup.
Initiated in September, 2008, the 'Community Service Cup' program provides a competitive format that allows student-athletes to gain an enriched experience through engagement with the on-campus and local communities by supporting ventures of traditional citizens, campus community members and peer students and student-athletes. SCSU student-athletes volunteered more than 3,000 hours of their time to numerous outreach efforts, both on-campus and in Greater New Haven, during the 2011-12 academic year.
Team IMPACT is a non-profit chartered to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening illnesses. Across the northeast we create unparalleled team based support systems. Core to our model is harnessing the power of teamwork by matching these courageous kids with college athletic teams. Team IMPACT children are drafted onto local college athletic teams and become an official member of the team for the duration of their treatment and beyond.
