Owls Sweep Caldwell, 3-0

Lauren McVey racked-up a season-hgih 16 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Caldwell earlier tonight in Pelz Gym.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior captain Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) of the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball led the team with 16 kills en route to a clean sweep of Caldwell College earlier tonight. The Owls claimed their first home match of the season.
 


Jade Black (Hudson, Ohio) contributed her first double-double of the season with 17 digs and 10 kills off a 0.400-hitting percentage. Taylor Carlson (Centennial, Colo.) assisted 23 points for the Owls, while Nicole Hauser (Stevens Port, Wis.) added 15 assists with seven kills and six digs. Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) tallied eight kills with three digs. Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) had 11 digs and Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) recorded four kills, four digs and two block assists to her credit.
 


Both the Owls and the Cougars battled through the first set trading points to 17-all. From there, the Owls went on a small run to 21-17 with help from Hauser and Black. The Owls managed to close out the first set by a score of 25-19. There was much of the same in the second as both teams again found themselves tied up at 17-all before the Owls rallied to go on a 6-0 run with kills from Lathrop, Hauser and McVey to close out the second set 25-19. In the third, Southern Connecticut jumped out to a cool 7-3 lead as they rolled to victory 25-21 to complete the sweep 3-0.


 
The Owls are currently 3-1 on the season.
 
The Owls will be back in action this Thursday Sept. 12 for a scheduled home match against Bridgeport scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
