Owls Drop Close Four-Setter to Bentley, 3-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Lauren McVey (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) of the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team tallied a double-double with 22 digs and 12 kills in a 3-1 loss to Bentley earlier tonight in Pelz Gymnasium.


 

Taylor Carlson (Centennial, Colo.) had 21 assists in the match, while Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) had a team-high 23 digs to her credit. Jade Black (Hudson, Ohio) managed six kills and 16 digs, Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) had five kills and four digs with three blocks, and Sarah Beres (Ellington, Conn.) recorded eight kills with two digs and three blocks.
 
The Owls battled from the start trading points with Bentley. Bentley proved to be too much in the first set as the window closed at 25-19. Southern Connecticut battled back from multiple points down in the second to sneak out a 25-23 second set. In the third, Bentley returned the favor with a 25-23 third set. The Owls stumbled out of the gate and Bentley took advantage as the set closed 25-13 and the match ended 3-1.
 
The Owls are now 8-4 overall and 0-1 in Northeast-10 conference play.
 
The Owls will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to Queens for a 5 p.m. start time.
