Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 5 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team suffered it's first loss of the season Saturday evening to No 1. nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire by a score of 5-0.

The loss drops the Owls to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the NE-10.  The Penmen move to 10-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the NE-10.

The first goal was scored by Miguel Carneiro in the 31st minute when he received a deflected pass from Sebastian Stezewski and put it in the back of the net.  SNHU followed up with their second goal just under three minutes later when Stezewski scored from the top of the box into the bottom corner of the goal.  That gave the Penmen a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Three more goals were added in the second half, the first from Jonathan Lupinelli off a free kick from left of the goal which got deflected past Noah Varonier (Miller Park, N.Y.).  Kenny Doublette scored shortly thereafter on a shot from the left of the box to the top right corner of the goal.  SNHU added a breakaway goal in the 84th minute on goalkeeper Robert Gallucci (Greene, R.I.).

The Owls next game is Tuesday, October 14 at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field when SCSU takes on the University of Bridgeport.
