Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Forward Daquan King (Plainville, Conn.) netted two goals in a span of 1:42 midway through the second half to send the No. 7 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Bridgeport tonight.

The Owls improved to 10-1 overall with the win, while Bridgeport is now 4-6.

SCSU controlled the play for most of the first half and held a 13-3 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes. Bridgeport keeper Agustin Prados made several key stops, including an acrobatic clear on a bid from Mads Larsen (Trondheim, Norway) to keep it scoreless through halftime.

The Owls finally struck after a Bridgeport foul in the Purple Knights box. King then ripped a low shot that actually went right through the net to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

King followed with his second of the night and sixth of the year less than two minutes later with a strike from the left wing that went into the upper right corner.

Bridgeport was able to climb within a goal with 9:58 left when Daniel Augenstein headed home a bid. The Purple Knights would get no closer.

SCSU keeper Noah Veronier (Miller Place, N.Y.) turned away three shots to earn the victory.

SCSU is back in action on Saturday for a road game at St. Anselm.
