Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore
Nicole Hauser (Stevens Point, Wisc.) had a team-high six kills, but the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Adelphi University Tuesday evening at Pelz Gymnasium. The Owls move to 5-13 on the season and 2-5 in the NE-10 with the setback.
Adelphi won the match by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-19.
Freshman Alexandra Nimz assisted 15 of the Owls' 23 kills. Junior Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) had a team-high 12 digs. Briauna Tutwiler led the Owls' defense with three blocks on the night. With the match tied at 5-all, Adelphi went on a 7-0 run to push its lead to seven (12-5). The Panthers continued to dominate on offense and took set one from the Owls.
Both teams battled early in the second set tying the frame at 5-5. Following a kill by
Jasmin Barrett (Stamford, Conn.), Southern Connecticut rallied back with a 4-0 run to bring the set to within four (15-11). It wasn't long after another short run by the Owls to cut the Panthers lead to two (16-14). However, the Panthers ended the second set on a 9-4 run.
Adelphi grabbed an early 6-1 lead over the Owls to begin set three. After a kill from Hauser, the Owls brought the score to within five (14-9). The Owls continued to battle back against the Panthers, but Adelphi ended the final set and match with a 25-19 third set victory.
The Owls are back in action on Friday, Oct. 17 as they welcome Southern New Hamsphire University to Pelz Gymansium for a 4 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference showdown.
