No. 5 Nationally Ranked Men's Soccer Team Rolls Past AIC 2-0

Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 5 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State men's soccer team easily handled the AIC Yellow Jackets, defeating them by a final score of 2-0 Wednesday night.  Goals were scored by Mads Larsen (Trondheim, Norway) and Markus Jacobsen (Oslo, Norway) in the third and 17th minute, respectively.

The Owls wated no time getting on the scoreboard.  Larsen took a throw in from the far side of the field towards the middle of the penalty box and fired a shot off his right foot to the upper left corner of the goal, scorching past AIC goalkeeper Sebastian Tamayo.  It was his third goal of the year.

Jacobsen one-upped his teammate almost fifteen minutes later.  He brought down a pass from his head to his left foot and one-timed a shot to the upper right corner of the goal for his fourth of the season.

The Owls wre dominant on the pitch and on the scorecard.  Southern outshot the Yellow Jackets 20-5 and freshman goalie Noah Varonier, who had only given up seven goals in eight games before this game, had to turn away just two shots on goal from AIC.

The game was chippy thoughout, but that increased towards the end of the game.  Four yellow cards were given out, three to AIC players, and all of them after both goals were scored.

The No. 5 nationally ranked Owls return to action this Saturday at home against No 1. nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire at 5 p.m.
