Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team fell to Northeast-10 Conference opponent Bentley University, 3-0, on Thursday night at the Dana Center. Freshman
Alexandria Jurgens (Cornwall, N.Y.) and junior
Kelly Gunneson (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied a team-high five kills in the loss as Southern is now 5-12 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Southern's offense was led by freshman
Alexandra Nimz (Littleton, Colo.) as she dished out a team-high nine assists. Junior
Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) and senior
Natasha Carlbert (Southington, Conn.) registered 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Bentley opened the first set on a 9-3 run forcing the Owls to call its first timeout of the set. Following the timeout, the Falcons continued to pull away with lead, 20-15. Shortly after, Bentley ended set one, 25-16, on a 5-1 run.
With Bentley controlling the momentum of the match, Southern Connecticut battled back early in set two with a 5-0 run to bring the score to within one (5-4). Trying to stop the Falcons' offense, Southern Connecticut called a timeout, but Bentley took set two, 25-12.
The third set was more of the same. Bentley led 14-5, but the Owls' 5-0 spurt brought the set within striking distance at 14-10. Unfortunately for Southern Connecticut, Bentley took the final set and match, 25-14.
Southern Connecticut returns to Pelz Gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 14th when they'll host Adelphi University in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
