Click here to view complete resultsNEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University men's swimming and diving team hosted The College of New Jersey on Saturday at Hutchinson Natatorium. The Owls won seven different events during the meet, but were outlasted by the Lions by a final of 153.5 to 126.5. Merrimack College also joined the SCSU and TCNJ at the meet.
The first two events of the day were the one-meter and three-meter dives. Freshman
Selim Lemond (Oxford, Conn.) picked up nine team points in each event, earning scores of 239.33 in the three meter, and 231.00 in the one meter dive.
Next, the 200 yard medley relay team of sophomore
Christian Berg (Groton, Conn.), freshman
Brandon Beaudoin (Scotia, N.Y.), sophomore
Dylan Swanepoel (Milford, Conn.) and senior
Jared Thurston (Wallingford, Conn.) finished in second place with a time of 1:38.64.
Junior
Louis Geist (Arvada, Colo.) swam his way to a first place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle, finishing in 9:44.07, earning nine team points. Senior
Daniel Gallup (Milford, Conn.) also placed third with a time of 10:16.70.
Later in the meet, Geist continued his strong day with a second place finish of 4:48.46 in the 500 yard freestyle.
Freshman
Tyler Vander Vos (South Windsor, Conn.) took home second place in the 200 yard freestyle by finishing in 1:45.07.
Berg took the top spot in both of the individual backstroke events of the meet, winning the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 52.05 seconds, before taking the 200 yard backstroke in 1:51.12.
Beaudoin also added a second place finish of 1:03.42 in the 100 yard breaststroke, and a third place time 2:18.04 in the 200 yard breaststroke.
The 200 yard butterfly saw a pair of Owls finish one-two, as Swanepoel and Geist finished with times of 1:56.12 and 1:58.08 respectively.
Senior
Jared Thurston (Wallingford, Conn.) tallied four team points for his second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 22.42.
In the 100 yard butterfly, Swanepoel collected his second victory of the day with a time of 52.82.
Berg (Second Place/2:01.14) and Beaudoin (Third Place/2.02:63) finished back-to-back in the 200 yard individual medley.
In the day's final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay, the Owls relay team of sophomore
Raymond Snyder (Waterbury, Conn.), Swanepoel, senior
Austin McMahon (Southbury, Conn.) and Vander Vos combined for a third place finish of 3:19.56.
Southern returns to action on Friday, Nov. 7, when they host Yale at Hutchinson Natatorium. Action gets underway at 3 p.m.
